Review of Speak (2004) by Leeway C — 07 May 2011
"Speak is sad, hopeful, (including) depressing but despite her challenges: the main character remains true and honest.".
Melinda is a bold, powerful character that all raped victims can almost relate to. She speaks to us with dark conviction, sometimes jokingly sarcastic but with maturity in her mouth. We are the journal she talks to, we get inside her head and understand her deepest fears/worries. I understood her and I know what it's like to be in so much pain but not wanting to talk about it. The audience can tell whether or not she is comfortable around her space which most of the time her expressions/appearance shows it all without uttering one single word. The main character is played by Kristen Stewart, an actress with many talents and I think her performance goes beyond in this one. I give her 100% credit for the way she acted in this movie. I was blown away by Kristen Stewart and I think she can be one of those actresses who can get nominated at the Oscars. She seems like the type who can do dark-depressing movies and this stood out the most. She is powerful in this film: you have to watch her to agree with me. Anyways, I love this movie! The dialogue worked and I was overall surprised and excited to see more of her upcoming movies.
Rating: 87% "Fresh".
I'm telling you this movie will move you to tears and the main character, she grows out of her shell and matures. A MUST SEE!
