Review of Spawn (1997) by Tyler H — 17 Dec 2010
This movie reminds me of everything that frustrated me about the rise of Image Comics. Todd McFarlane left his position as penciller on Spawn to start a lucrative toy company and make TV and movie deals for his character.
So basically, his devotees were left with a Todd McFarlane comic pencilled by some other artist and a really horrible movie adaptation. Seriously, the CGI in this is unnaceptible! This was even bad CGI for 1997, and the acting and casting is also garbage.
The Violator is like a reject from the Garbage Pail Kids movie. There's really nothing to like here. Not only was I left with a bitter taste in my mouth from wasting my money on this in the theatres, I also gave up reading Spawn when I realized McFarlane was more of a businessman than comic artist.
Jack Kirby didn't ditch drawing for bad movies like this!
