Review of Spawn (1997) by Richie E — 28 May 2012
The effects KILLED this movie. It's a prime example of how the world of cinema was not ready for the use of CGI during the 90's. The performances of Leguizamo and Sheen are also obnoxiously over-the-top.
Some things work, though. For instance, the ever-underrated Michael Jai White does a good job, and is, in fact, the only entertaining actor here, as he manages to rise above the crude humor and give us something we can take seriously.
Bottom line, this movie isn't overtly bad, but too much holds it back from being good.
