Review of Spartan (2004) by Tree F — 29 Jun 2007
A Mamet melodrama. Full of his cutting dialogue, the film isn't just the wheeling of more of Mamet's tricks but an honest effort to make a meaningful story out of an military ops attempt to rescue a kidnapped girl.
All actors are fine and play to Mamet's tune and the film succeeds as a well paced and intriguing thriller. The film isn't terribly deep, but well done. It is also Mamet looking at another subculture of America in extortion of women to other countreis, but the film is distinctly Mamet.
One of his best later efforts.
