Review of Spartacus (1960) by Jack W — 24 Jun 2009
Wow. I can say so much but I want to focus on the final battle scene between the Romans and the slave army. The size and scope of this production is amazing. Staging the armies and choreographing their movement while dealing with thousands of extras had to be an enormous task.
without cgi or s/fx they make the battle scene standout (to me) as one of the best ever filmed. the influence of this film can be seen in so may contemporary films such as Gladiator or Braveheart. Kubrick truly is a master and this film just goes to show that when every element of a film is working together the film becomes something else entirely.
