Before seeing Sparkle I just knew it was going to be awful but to my surprise the remake fell in that murky grey area of not completely awful and maybe the remake should have not been done. The singing of the original songs was sub par and never found the right note, much like Jordin Sparks acting (no shade though). And I donâ(TM)t recall Sparkle being clingy & slightly annoying nor do I recall Sistah having the persona of a hoe but I guess those are the types of changes that come with remakes. Without giving any of the movie away let me just say that I understand that with remakes changes have to be made but DONâ(TM)T change a critical part of the movie that was so essential to the original :( .

Although some parts of the movie were over acted and could have been done away with I must give props where props are due and say that Jordin Sparks sounds pretty good singing songs that we have not heard before because while her and the rest of the âsingersâ?(insert air quotes) fell short of singing the songs from the 1976 Sparkle the original songs from the remake get a head bob of approval. Since the movie wasn't a complete waste of 2hrs I rate it a 6.
