Review of Sparkle (2012) by Dave C — 08 Dec 2012
Wow..........mixed reviews?.....on this movie? I wasn't expecting much because of what I had read and heard about it. However, it had everything in it that I love about big "Hollywood" endeavors.....fierce style, unwavering glamor, wonderful acting, a great production, terrific music, fantastic wardrobe, amazing sets...oh yes, and a heart-felt feeling and soul-tingling performance by the entire cast. I was so utterly unprepared for how much I would enjoy this work of art, and for how much it would uplift me!
And double wow......negative and so-so reviews? Really???? Yes, the story has been told and done before, but I loved the movie for how it was told, and why it was told.
How was it told? The movie aspires to reach its audience with a story of the merging of dreams and reality; the possibilities and potential of celebrating life. I think that this goal was achieved.
And I have to add......the talk of Whitney's voice being ruined?????? I guess her body and face was ruined too......if you were/are stuck on her as a never-aging, never-changing youthful star. She still was amazing and wonderful to watch, and could sing beautifully. I loved her performance, executed with power and grace.
