Review of Sparkle (2012) by Florence B — 31 Dec 2012
If you like rythym and blues, circa 1965 you will enjoy the musical parts of this movie. But as a warning, you will have to endure a lame story of three sisters, all Hollywood-style beautiful, talented, and dressed to the nines, living in a mini mansion, with Whitney Houston as their mama.
As a classic "up from poverty to stardom" tale, this one is laughable. And the only recognition of the civil rights struggle taking place during this period is when one sister cuts her hair into an afro.
