Review of Sparkle (1976) by Kelly W — 03 Jul 2008
Picked up Sparkle from a discount bin and was surprised to learn a) it predated Dream Girls and b) starred Irene Cara and Phillip M. Thomas (who would later hit the big time w/ Miami Vice). Co-written by Joel Schumacher with Curtis Mayfield on hand for the soundtrack, the movie has a lot more substance than I anticipated, but the ending still has me a bit mystyfied.
