Review of Spanglish (2004) by Joseph G — 08 Jul 2010
Spanglish is the story of a couple who hire a Spanish housekeeper. She moves in with her young daughter. She only speaks Spanish but soon learns English. Also living in the house are the couple's two children and grandmother who drinks.
Tea Leoni stars as the neurotic mother who interferes with the housekeeper's life in trying to better her daughter. Adam Sandler gives a rare dramatic performance as the husband who has romantic feelings for the housekeeper.
Paz Vega gives a great performance as the housekeeper and Cloris Leachman is both funny and touching as the grandmother. This is a great film showcasing all of the family member's problems. It is well written and well acted.
Sandler shows he is great at drama not just comedy. I recommend everyone see this film.
