Review of Spanglish (2004) by Brian S — 29 Sep 2011
Finely-written and thought-provoking comedy-drama from writer-director James L. Brooks about the connections and dysfunctions of family relationships (including parental), both culturally and personally.
Adam Sandler is good in one of his more serious roles, but it's Paz Vega who shines as a Mexican mother struggling to raise her daughter and adapt to a foreign and eccentric environment. Tea Leoni and Gloris Leachman add colorful humor, and young Shelbie Bruce gives a brilliant and versatile performance.
