Review of Spaceballs (1987) by Andrew E — 17 Sep 2010
In a world full of Star Wars spoofs it is hard to look at this movie today as a trend setter... But is was. I enjoyed this movie so much back in the 80's and I still love it today. I will admit that half the jokes don't really work but then the other half that do work far out weight the clunky ones. In fact the visual comedy is often more successful than the puns and wit, Ludicrous Speed being a stand out moment for example.
Bill Pullman is a little out of his league unfortunately and can't really keep up with the rest of the cast but I guess it can't be easy when you are up against John Candy, Rick Moranis and Mel Brooks.
All in all this is a lot of fun however I doubt new viewers watching it today would agree with me as this movie has so much competition now.
