Review of Spaceballs (1987) by Jessica H — 10 Oct 2011
I thought it was dumb as hell. I usually like visual humour just fine, but not when its whole idea is just to gross you out and thus draw cheap laughs out of that. The movie wasn't really improved by its puns - visual or otherwise - because they, well, sucked.
No creativity, no comedic timing, just desperate attempts for cheap laughs. Most of the more original ideas were based around the bad guys, and I thought that they were kind of likable. I didn't laugh at them, but I didn't actively hate them either.
Unlike the so-called heroes, who were just dumber versions of their Star Wars equivalents. So yeah, if you're into gag comedy and lots of puns, you might like this movie just fine. I generally hate both, so this movie wasn't for me.
