It's not as funny as other Mel Brooks films, but there are certainly laughs to be had. Ironically, I would say that it's funnier for people who are NOT fans of sci-fi films. Although there are some in-jokes for Star Wars fans, the parody is more "I fell asleep several times during Star Wars, and this is how I remember it" than "I've watched Star Wars eighty-nine times and it would be hilarious if this happened.
" I also thought the smattering of profanity was a little gratuitous. But the film certainly is full of memorable characters. Best line: "I'm a mog: half man, half dog. I'm my own best friend.
