Review of Spaceballs (1987) by Willie J — 22 Feb 2014
Mel Brooks is a wonderful satirical artist. He isn't afraid to go all out in his comedy, and he'll do anything for a laugh. In "Spaceballs", it seems Brooks did everything for a laugh.
That proved to be a good and a bad thing. I'm not saying there aren't any funny moments, there are plenty of them. But if one considers the amount of comedy the film aspires to have and the amount it actually has, the realization hits that the film tries too hard at times.
