Review of Spaceballs (1987) by Jordan K — 28 Mar 2014
Spaceballs is alright. I'm not a huge spoof movie fan, but it was clever at times and its parodies of the characters were funny.
Spaceballs is an obvious parody of the Star Wars franchise, and it portrayed it well (except no Luke). Lone Starr and his man/dog hybrid, Barf, must save Princess Vespa from the clutches of the evil spaceballs, led by Lord Dark Helmet. The rest is a bonanza of Star Wars references and witty jokes.
It's alright, like I said, not a huge spoof fan. However, it kept me intrigued enough to give it a fair rating and most of the jokes were good. It's not perfect, but well done for a spoof. The acting isn't spot on, either, but the characters have enough personality to make up for it. I'd suggest this especially to Brooks fans and Star Wars fanboys.
