Review of Space Cowboys (2000) by Andrew G — 13 Feb 2010
I am reminded of a conversation that Michael Caine did years ago explaining why he did Jaws: whatever, "well I needed to pay for a new house." I think that explains some of the premise of this movie, granted I think the premise fits especially with the cast, which is very good and anything with James Garner is cool by me.
The story is kind of corny but oddly it works and eventually it draws you in. The Eastwood/ Jones conflict works even if it is staged and again corny.
Premise, Eastwood and Jones are old, ex-astronauts who were screwed over by Cromwell. Well they get a chance to go back to space by remnants of the the cold war star wars. While the ending is clear and predictable it still tugs at the heart strings.
