Review of Space Cowboys (2000) by David K — 26 Jan 2009
This is a really good movie and I don't get why all the hatred for it. Is it believable? Well it's believable in the way that an oldtime gunfighter comes out of retirement to bring justice to a small town.
("Unforgiven?") It's not an accident or a marketing ploy that the word "Cowboy" is in the title. "Space Cowboys" is a western at heart. It's dealing with the same issues that all westerns deal with.
Justice, humanity, moral right and wrong. It's all here, just on a greater scale. It's still about America and her values. Is the film hoaky at times? I guess, but it's still charming, and that goes a long way for me.
"Space Cowboys" is not Eastwood's best movie, not by a long shot, but it's one of the most enjoyable, and that says a lot.
