Review of Space Chimps (2008) by Squalid J — 17 Aug 2008
Surfing penguins, kung-fu pandas, and now monkey astronauts...these are just some of the idle thoughts that had been occupying my daydreams for years, only to be plucked from my mind and made into popular CGI family films. Seriously. Hollywood is stealing my thoughts. It's ok, though, I don't mind. They're welcome to these ideas, and all the money they'll make from them. Why? Because I've still got my puffin detective agency. They can't take that one away from me. I'll sue their balls off if they even try.
...Anyway, there's not a whole lot else that needs said about Space Chimps. Plot, characterisation and visuals are all there, but they take a back-seat to good old-fashioned jokes. I'm ok with that. The jokes are of the hit and miss variety - mostly they're mild hits. Oh, and keep your ears open for my favourite joke, just after main character Ham III wonders aloud what's on the radio. I say my favourite joke - it's one of those ones that's so bad you kind of have to admire the sheer bloody cheek of it.
