Review of Space Chimps (2008) by Paul N — 08 Apr 2011
In the huge genre that is children's movies, there are many wonderful contenders. This is not one of them.
Settling for poorly constructed and developed characters, a simplistic and poorly explicated plot, this movie has little to commend itself to either children or adults. There are a couple of chuckles to be had - mostly from Patrick Warburton with his typical bombast or Andy Samberg with his bizarre sense of humor - but the chuckles are far too rare and all too often aimed over the heads of kids.
Perhaps there's an unofficial contest now to come up with the most annoying and insipid character to pander to children since Jar Jar Binks or Ewoks. The little light-bulb-headed creature in this movie is currently my vote for winner. Unpronounceable, pointless, and irritating. *shudder*.
I'd go on, but there's really no point. Even a Disney movie would be better than this. Save your money and time and get something from Pixar - you and your kids will thank you.
