Review of Space Chimps (2008) by Omar B — 31 Mar 2018
What an odd movie. That's all I think when I see this movie. It's odd. And that's it. The animation is a revolving door between passable and cheap-looking. The aliens in particular have really bland rendering.
The voice acting is good. For me, Andy Samberg just shines as the main character. Some of the jokes made me laugh. It has a small charm to it. But this movie is forgettable largely due to its cliched characters, overreliance on pop culture for its jokes and an underwhelmingly short run time.
Space Chimps is...not very good, to say the least. It just feels like it was released to capitalize off of WALL-E but without the thought-provoking narrative subtext that made that movie great. And it relied on the producer being the same one from Shrek as the main selling point.
However, not a lot of people know about this movie. At least not anymore. Meaning that even if someone did mention it, I have doubts they'd mistake it for a DreamWorks movie.
