Review of Soylent Green (1973) by Mike C — 08 Dec 2012
It's an interesting movie...kind of. There are plenty of problems...why is an older gentleman (Hesston), presumably born in the 1970s or 80s (presumably when there was plenty of good food), so unfamiliar with the past when this movie takes place in 2022? Besides that, there is the human "furniture" (really attractive furniture).
All in all, the book was probably better because it could have described small aspects of the new world and left the rest to imagination. A movie cannot do that, and as this movie goes light on technology, 2022 looks a lot like 1972 when the movie was made.
I do like the premise...overpopulation can and will lead to some pretty strange things. The ending is sort of laughable, but probably won't be in a decade or two.
