Review of Soylent Green (1973) by Paul B — 05 Apr 2008
Charlton Heston's (possibly) finest film is a sobering eco-fable, a cracking slice of scifi, and a superb film. From Chuck's first taste of beef, to the Soylent Green Tuesday riot, to Edward G.
Robinson's trip Home, to the near wordless revelation of the Soylent Corporation's dark secret (which everyone knows nowadays, but I still choose not to spoil), to the final fight in the overcrowded church in which every punch thrown injures bystanders - I cannot stress enough now good a film this is, even if the sexual politics haven't aged well (women are regarded as "furniture", to be leased along with apartments).
