Review of Soylent Green (1973) by Mb M — 14 Mar 2010
Wanted to watch this one since I was about 6 yrs old, when I saw a picture of it in a sci-fi movie book that my brother had - showing the scoop machines picking up large groups of people and disposing of them due to over-population.
Result: This movie is ahead of its time, it portrays global-warming, pollution, over-population, sustainability, the food crisis and the dire corruption and security crisis these issues create when they are left to become emergency situations.
It is a slow movie, incredibly dated, yet I like the over-all consciousness of it. Why there was such a spike of these kinds of movie in 60's & 70's and not so much now is a bit odd. I would like to see a remake of this from a hardcore sci-fi director,... but not sure who that would be!
