In a summer filled with one blockbuster disappointment after another, Southside with You is a small budget gem that really sticks out. First of all, it's fantastic, both in its outstanding performances and the way it embraces the Before Sunrise mode of moviemaking.

Secondly, it's a rare love story that's actually done well, and there's an undeniable charm and romanticism in its simplicity. It's that spark and chemistry that makes the Obamas such an amazing real-life couple, and that personal touch is something anybody can appreciate, regardless of political leanings.
