Review of Southpaw (2015) by Ricky G — 20 Aug 2015
Southpaw written by Kurt Sutter (Sons Of Anarchy) and directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) starring one of my favorite actors Jake Gyllenhaal. Southpaw really got me interested when I heard about this movie a boxer who was the greatest then looses it all.
I like Fuqua I really liked the Equalizer even more than Training Day, though I hated Olympus Has Fallen. Jake Gyllenhaal steals this movie, he absolutely kills it here, it's almost on Par with the performance he gave in Nightcrawler.
My pain problem with this movie is that Sutter decided to make this movie about mostly a drama instead of actually making it a boxing movie that's the reason why we came to see this, well at least it was for me.
By the end of this movie we get about probably 20 minutes of boxing throughout the whole movie. I liked this movie I did but the fact I didn't see much boxing (and the boxing looked kinda fake) instead I was beating over the head the I have to feel back for Jake's character.
This is a disappointing film because it wasn't great like I thought it was going to be, but I still enjoyed it.
