Review of Southpaw (2015) by Caroline J — 29 Aug 2015
Southpaw, Billy Hope (gyllenhaal) has it all in terms of a loving wife and daughter, the house, the flash cars and plenty of cash, along with being a small time local boxing hero.
After a tragic incident at a charity event where his wife is shot Hope's life turns upside down, his life long manager/friend (50 cent) leaves him for another up and coming talent.
His daughter is taken away from him and he turns to gym owner Tick Willis, (whitaker) to try and get his life and career back on track.
The final fight is all about redemption and revenge and to get trust and love back from his daughter.
Loved this movie, compelling and unnerving boxing film. Obviously its no Rocky or Raging Bull but up to date, plenty of boxing and training scenes and a great role played by Gyllenhaal.
