Review of Southpaw (2015) by Andy S — 26 Dec 2015
Maybe being a father jaded me while watching this movie. Maybe it influenced my reactions to Gyllenhaals character choices. Watching it from the perspective of a man who respects family and does everything he can to give them a better life, only to have it ripped away because he's a stubborn a-hole is definitely relatable.
People have to stop watching movies being so cynical. If the movie moves you, makes you think, engrosses you in the film and escape the world of reality, which really is a world of nonsense then I would consider the film a success .
.. and this film at least has you feeling for a father who is fighting to regain his daughters love.
