Review of Southpaw (2015) by Carlos H — 16 Mar 2016
Emotion is both the saving grace and downfall of Southpaw. The movie relies heavily on Jake Gyllenhaal and the family theme that is able to resonate with audience. But as a boxing and sports movie, its plot and realism isn't on par with other great boxing films.
With that said, Jake Gyllenhaal does a masterful job in his portrayal as Billy Hope, Oscar worthy material acting with a forgettable plot.
