Review of Southpaw (2015) by Justin N — 07 May 2016
Southpaw is a good film in which Jake Gyllenhaal and Forest Whitaker shine. Some scenes really hit hard thanks to Gyllenhaal's portrayal of this hurt, broke man. I don't think the boxing scenes look very realistic as they look too choreographed but the issues outside of the boxing is very well handled.
And yes you can argue that there are two many cliches but that's not always a bad thing if the movie and the director understand that.
