Review of Southpaw (2015) by Raji K — 17 Feb 2017
Incredibly stupid & predictable, but watchable nonetheless. An undefeated world champion just defended his title at Madison Square Garden and a few days later 50 Cent is telling him he's broke? Is Bernie Madoff in charge of this guys money? Then after a huge fundraiser with witnesses everywhere and cameras following them his wife gets shot and nobody has a clue who did it.
Sure.... Next thing we know our boxer friend is working at Forrest Whitaker's gym for minimum wage, completely forgetting he's a former undefeated champion that could easily make $10K a day doing autograph shows.
Finally we see our hero struggle in an exhibition match against some bum at a church, but after the fight he agrees to a title shot in just 6 weeks. Southpaw is just bad film making. Really bad.. But thanks to some likable actors and being a sports movie it's watchable.
