Review of Southland Tales (2007) by Alita M — 03 Feb 2009
Cannes had it right - what a piece of crap for a film.
It took me three times to watch it -I feel asleep each time.
I read a screenplay synopsis - it took researching reviews to finally grasp the point of this film.
I would like to give him props for trying to cover a breadth of topics trying on the minds of Americans and our government these days....but when you're claiming to use "A Scanner Darkly" and the vision of Andy Warhol as inspiration you better have a damn good game plan for executing such a project.
Let's just say, he failed horribly. Waste of time and the message isn't cohesive. Is it political, is it religious, is it social? If your point was to show what a discombobulation our modern day society is well then you've succeeded. But next time, make it more interesting, less abstract.
