Review of Southland Tales (2007) by Andy W — 20 Feb 2011
Very bad. I can see the good intentions (hence the 1 star), and god knows the targets of the satire deserve it, but this is ridiculously long, makes very little sense despite all the dialogue attempting to explain things, and for pity's sake it has "The Rock" in it. And Justin Timberlake. Who sings.
The idea of Buffy as a porn star had an obvious appeal but even she was boring boring boring. Though I don't think she did any singing - unless it was in one of the bits where I dozed off for a moment.
A bitter disappointment which I hope will turn out to be the same sort of glitch in Richard Kelly's career as Dune was in David Lynch's. Talking of whom, Inland Empire takes some beating for inexplicability but this film confortably exceeds it.
