Review of Southland Tales (2007) by Rick Q — 18 Aug 2012
Richard kelly's "donnie darko" ollow up, "southland tales" starts off really good. the story is weird and interesting and very ambitious. unfortunately, t's way too ambitious and kelly obviously didn't know what to do with it.
some of the performances are a lot of fun (sarah michelle geller is actually really good here), but others such as dwayne "the rock" johnson and sean william scott are terrible. somewhere in the middle things start to really fall apart, story wise and by the end the thing is a huge mess.
clearly it was put into production before the story was polished and ready to go in front of the cameras.
