Review of South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999) by Johnny T — 12 Mar 2013
The profanity for profanity's sake approach shows a lack of imagination when many in the past have used similar vulgarities with far more amusing and creatively pleasant results.Vulgar and tasteless as usual, but most definitely longer and, quite obviously, to its detriment, uncut. There are some good visuals and a fairly good storyline, but all of these qualities are very uneven. Nothing, except high energy and edginess, are maintained very long. The satirical message is that the moral defenders of impressionable American youth would literally rather see violent death than obscenity, but Parker and Stone end up delivering both in overabundant quantities to prove their point. It is abundantly clear that Parker and Stone desperately want to be, or at least appear to be, subversive, but for the most part, this is kiddie subversion. The quite clever satirical moments in this crudely animated filth fest, though, are not remotely worth being dragged through the cinematic sewer.
VERDICT: "Not So Hot" - [Negative Reaction] These films are truly terrible films. They are not the worst things ever made, but they are definitely awful and should not be seen by anyone. (Films that are rated 1.5 or 2 stars).
