Review of Source Code (2011) by Richard C — 24 Dec 2012
Showing the same scenarios all over again for the form of the storyline could have gone either way, but thanks to Duncan Jones's direction, an intelligent script and some heart-pounding set-pieces placed with a sense of not knowing what could happen next, Source Code succeeds enormously as a sci-fi thriller trying to do something unique.
Mixing several different events happening at the same time also corresponds to the films talent for displaying intelligence without having to resort to basic Hollywood conventions and not boring the viewer with pointless scenarios that could have the damaged the films reliability.
As a self-confessed viewer who does not go for sci-fi very often, this is an example of a standout sci-fi thriller that represents how some films go for lazy, cliched, uninspiring letdowns and some actually have credibility for giving the viewer what they deserve to see.
This is a case of the latter.
