Review of Soul Survivors (2001) by Xavier C — 11 Jun 2010
This film cannot decide between being another teenage slasher flick or being a mystery/thriller about the living and the dead. This indecision makes this film try to squeeze cliched moments from both genres into it's already convoluted plot.
The film centralizes around a car crash that leaves it's survivors pondering what is real and what is not. The plot seems ripped off of Carnival of Souls, but it's still a fairly interesting direction to take.
Unfortunately, Soul Survivors execution is slow, even in the moments that are supposed to scare you. I really wished this film could have been more, but it's tedious, implausible, confusing, and worst of all, not enjoyable even by guilty pleasure standards.
