It starts off really weak. The acting is especially bad from that country singer and the girl who plays the surf antagonist. The tension between the main character and the other competing surfer was very ineffective.
The scenes around the actual shark attack and the aftermath were really well done. On the end it's that drama that really saves the film. The emphasis on faith as the source of strength to overcome this extreme trial is also admirable.
