Soul Surfer is a great true story of an injured girl overcoming adversity, with a slightly heavy-handed religious subtext running through it. At times I felt like I was being beaten over the head with Bethany's Christian faith.

This film should have resonated with faith based viewers and with extreme sports fans, but unfortunately the blending of the two alienated both. If you're not religious, enjoy the surfing and ignore the religion; and if you're religious, ignore the surfing and enjoy the sermons.

Solid rental.
