Review of Soul Surfer (2011) by Gerald D — 06 Dec 2012
AMAZING. This movie was perfect in so many ways. I can't think of a bad thing to say about it. It is so nice to have a story that was truely good and inspiring. This is what movies are supposed to be. It gets you emotionally involved and then gets you inspired.
It is an amazing love story that doesn't revolve around sex or boys. It is the love of Family, Friends and Surfing. The movie doesn't hide the fact that Bethany Hamilton has a solid relationship with God and part of her overcoming adversity and learning is from that relationship, but the person the movie is based on is Christian so the movie shouldn't have to hide it.
The movie was not predictable even though you might know part of the story. The acting was great. Annasophia Robb, Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid and the rest of the cast did a great job.
I also liked watching the surfing scenes. I cheered out loud when they caught some of the waves. (Also got to give some of the actor's credit for a lot of their own surf stunts.).
Lastly I loved that the movie ends with actual home video footage and stock footage of Bethany Hamilton which I couldn't take my eyes off of. Too bad for the peoples whose names were in the credits at this point, because no one was watching the credits.
Great movie. See it if you want to be inspired.
