Review of Soul Music (1997) by Nathan D — 24 Jul 2011
This was a pretty good adaptation, and while I thought the animation was a little too goofy at times, they were generally successful at bringing the characters to life (well, cartoon life, anyway). The whole thing was rather long, being divided into seven parts, and it sometimes seemed like they were including everything from the book.
This isn't entirely true, as, for instance, they left out all of the other rock bands that formed in Ankh-Morpork, aside from some brief episodes with Jimbo's band. Still, it included more than they likely would have in a feature film version.
One interesting bit they did with the animation was to show the Band With Rocks In dressed in different classic rock outfits every time they performed.
