Review of Soul Kitchen (2009) by Daniele C — 14 Jul 2010
A low-budget production production that shows Hollywood how it's done. The only thing wrong with this flick: a Turkish director portraying two Greek brothers in Hamburg City. Just kidding and throwing oil into the flames.
As a Greek I congratulate Faith Akin, the young German-Turkish directing-sensation, to a vibrant, lovable, mostly unpredictable and soul-ful movie. You see the enjoyment they had filming this and really feel for the actors.
Also Moritz Bleibtreu, one of Germany's finest actors, plays the Greek brother with criminal record and intentions so flawlessly, it's a joy to watch. But in the end all actors are good and make this an astounding experience.
This is the spearhead of young German films to come.
