Review of Sorority Row (2009) by Amber K — 18 May 2010
Surprisingly I liked it, it was not as bad as I expected. I though the plot was decent but it does not cover any new ground in this genre. I enjoyed the cast and the direction. The film starts off with the sorority prank gone wrong and ends with just desserts.
It is pretty standard for today's "slasher" films but the last 25 minutes are the best. The overall story does have a common feel to it. It is not too often that I am stumped by a film. There are too many people to suspect and this film really kept me guessing until the killer is reviled.
All in all I thought this film had a good ending. Interesting cast to say the least. I really did enjoy the entire cast. Not because I think they are the best bunch of actress' around (because they're not) but because they are kind of believable in these role.
It doesn't seem hard for them to play sorority girls. Also I didn't expect to see Carrie Fisher in this film and on a personal note I love Julian Morris. I thought he was perfect in his role, although he doesn't have much screen time.
A steady to fast pace throughout the film. The effects are good but again that is standard for today. This film is a remake of 1983's The House on Sorority Row. I haven't seen the original so I cannot compare.
The outtakes on the DVD are pretty good too. Recommended for those who like today's teen slasher films.
