Review of Sophie Scholl: The Final Days (2005) by Pei Yee W — 08 Feb 2009
This dialogue-driven film makes this one of the most thought provoking films about Germany and the Third Reich during WWII and especially moving because of its protagonist. How does freedom, bravery, empathy and conscience figure in the scheme of things? Serving as a counterpoint is the criminologist employed in the case, well-played by Gerald Alexander Held.
Not to draw any kind of relevant comparison, but Sophie Scholl was my age now when she was executed. Julia Jentsch was perfectly cast for the role.
