Review of Sophie Scholl: The Final Days (2005) by Mark O — 15 Apr 2009
Sophie Scholl is an intense film, as you might imagine. What surprised me is that most of the film is taken up with Sophie's interrogation and her incarceration, rather than her heroic activities which led to her capture.
Hennicke is a believable and sensitive heroine; someone who is brave without being perfect, and though you know the outcome, you still hope it will be different. Held is a fascinating foil for her in their conversations - he is clearly confused by this young lady, someone he was sure he could bully into submission but who clearly has more backbone than he bargained for.
Brilliantly, tautly filmed, and extraordinarily moving, Sophie Scholl is a film that should be seen by anyone who has ever thought "I'm just one person - I don't make a difference.".
