Review of Sophie Scholl: The Final Days (2005) by Ian C — 26 May 2009
An oddly underwhelming affair with screaming Nazis and a dull, minimalist performance by Julia Jentsch as Sophie Scholl, a student activist who was executed for distributing anti-Nazi leaflets in 1943.
The story is inherently interesting, but the telling of the tale veers between restraint (which sometimes works, and is sometimes just lifeless) and histrionics, particularly in the case of the said screaming Nazis, who berate doe-eyed Sophie like second-rate Hitler impersonators.
