Review of Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie (1996) by Musfequr R — 04 Oct 2011
It's fun, has action, and pretty nice animation to boot! It sort of felt short though, and I think that they could have found a better voice actor for the main character. In my opinion, Jaleel White will always be the true voice of Sonic the Hedgehog.
But for what it's worth, it's a movie that the kids can enjoy, and that adults won't be annoyed with. For a movie based on a video game mascot, it is well above average. Mario and Link eat your heart out! Another thing, if you like today's watered down mellow-dramatic (4kids) Sonic X, you might not enjoy this as much as you would like to.
Because this actually tries to be a cartoon. And rightly so, is a bit cheesy. This movie is for fans of the video game, and the cartoon show. The dialogue isn't anything to marvel at, bet then again it shouldn't be.
It's a kid's movie, but a good one at that. You can break out the old VCR for this one! I know it's on Blueray, but sooner or later your kid should find out about Betamax (it's called sarcasm).
Anyway, no matter if it's on a trusty HiFi Stereo VHS tape, or crusty old scratched-up DVD, Sonic The Hedgehog: The Movie is a Japanese video animation (the original by the way) that Americans can enjoy too.
..as well as those people called Europeans.
