After watching this movie, I realized that the most touching scenes in movies are those that don't do much. Those are the silent but poignant and powerful scenes where a husband looks lovingly at his wife or when in this case, a mute daughter trying to be who she truly is (a selkie - a seal person) while earning the love of her brother.

Song of the Sea is such a BEAUTIFUL film with great storytelling of the Irish and Celtic lore. I watched this without knowing anything about the movie or anything about Irish fairytales but I was kept engrossed for the full 90 minutes and it had me crying buckets the last 5 minutes of the film. It's a wonderful tale that I think everyone should watch. Here again is when I say that piracy is a good thing because how are we ever going to see this unless we travel all the way out to the Western world? It's great to see Miyazaki references which influenced the director, Tomm Moore, so much and if you watch closely, there's a shoutout to My Neighbor Totoroo there. There art is unlike anything I've ever seen. It's fluid geometry in motion and the solid watercolor strokes are a joy to watch. I'm no expert at art but this traditionally drawn piece is excellent! If I can only give this 6 over 5 stars, I would. Please please watch this! Also the characters are super cute. THEM SEALS and CU THE DOG <3 This is going into my list of comfort films.
