Review of Song of the Sea (2014) by Frederic C. B — 26 Apr 2015

The Good:

Gorgeous painting-like animation, with gentle tones and surreal yet vivid colors. The story is enchanting, magical and mystical at the same time. The emotional build up towards the climax is simply an amazing experience. The way it manages to incorporate native folklores like Selkie and other, gives it a vibe that is commonly seen in a Japanese Ghibli product. The songs makes for beautiful accompaniments. The message about family and caring for one another is very strong, and will make a good morale lesson for every audience, especially children.

The Not-so-Good:

The slow pacing might cause a quite sluggish experience at times. The mystical tone might feel creepy once you observe it deeper.
