"Beat" Takeshi Kitano's usual preferred mixture of slow, unglamorous gangster drama sparsely punctuated by beautiful images and extreme violence, but this one is by far his funniest -- lots of deadpan Yakuza shenanigans, as a bunch of tough guys have to fight off boredom while on a "peace-keeping" mission in a southern beach town.
